Our Story

From Grassroots Advocacy to National Impact 

Gender Equality for Good Governance Sierra Leone (GEGG-SL) was born out of a shared frustration — and a deep hope in 2020. 

In university of Sierra Leone, we saw women and girls silenced in decision-making spaces, survivors of gender-based violence left without justice, and young people excluded from conversations about their future. We saw the effects of poverty, inequality, broken systems, and cultural barriers that kept entire generations from realizing their full potential — especially women, girls, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups. 

So, we came together — activists, students, health workers, policy advocates, and youth leaders — bound by a common belief: gender equality is not only a right, but a necessity for just, peaceful, and effective governance. 

Since our founding, GEGG-SL has grown from a small network of community-based advocates into a nationally recognized organization. We work at the intersection of gender justice, reproductive rights, inclusive governance, and sustainable development, using evidence, partnerships, and community power to influence policies and change lives. 

From classroom, group presentation to join team of passionate youths to create change — we amplify voices, shift mindsets, and create space for those often excluded. 

We are more than a gender organization.
 We are a movement for justice.
We are a bridge between the people and power.
We are a force for change. 

And we are just getting started.

At Gender Equality for Good Governance Sierra Leone (GEGG-SL), we firmly believe that every girl and woman deserves the right to make informed decisions about her body, health, and future. We are dedicated to promoting comprehensive sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) by increasing awareness, expanding access to quality services, and advocating for policies that protect and empower.
From safe maternal healthcare to access to contraception, from education on reproductive health to support for survivors of gender-based violence, our work centers on uplifting the dignity, autonomy, and well-being of all girls and women — regardless of their background or circumstance.
Together, we can break barriers, challenge stigma, and build a society where reproductive rights are respected and guaranteed for everyone.

Our work empowers women, girls, men, and boys to challenge barriers, break down stereotypes, and create inclusive spaces where leadership reflects the diversity of our communities. Through advocacy, capacity building, and community engagement, we are shaping a future where equality is the norm, and change is led by those most impacted.
